Contains record books, including a brief early history of the church, minutes, clippings, church circulars, treasurer's reports, and correspondence, 1872-1917; membership records, including record of monthly changes, 1873-1910; alphabetical roll of members, 1873-1905, 1916, and chronological register, including list of pastors and officers, 1910-1940; marriage register stubs, 1886-1916. Also includes church publications, such as "Silver Anniversary Souvenir Journal," 1898; "The Making of an Institution," 1923; "The Boomerang," published by the young people's group of the church, 1924. In addition, the records contain programs, publications, clippings, and some correspondence concerning the church, its leaders, and prominent members, including Theodore Banta of the New York Insurance Co. Also included is an historical booklet issued for the fiftieth anniversary celebration in 1923.

The Marcy Avenue Baptist Church came about as an expansion of the Washington Avenue Baptist Church. Its original location at Marcy Avenue and Monroe Street in the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood of Brooklyn formerly belonged to the Central Congregational Church, which was purchased in June of 1872 by the Trustees of the Washington Avenue Baptist Church, after which it functioned as a Sunday school.
